carvelo2go: The electric cargo bikes come to Wädenswil
Wädenswil, March 28, 2018. Starting today, an electric cargo bike, a so-called "carvelo", can be rented in Wädenswil via the platform www.carvelo2go.ch. carvelo2go is an offer of the Mobility Academy AG of the TCS and the Promotion Fund Engagement Migros. In Wädenswil, carvelo2go is starting with a cargo bike sponsored by the company ELEKTRON AG, which can be borrowed from the coffee bar "Kafisatz".
Carvelos are perfect for transporting goods or small children. They reduce the burden on the environment, save space, encourage exercise and are fun to ride. Anyone who wants to benefit from these advantages but doesn't want to buy their own cargo bike can do so in Wädenswil starting today. After a one-time and free registration on carvelo2go.ch, one can be rented at a low hourly rate via the sharing platform carvelo2go of the Mobility Academy AG of the TCS as well as the Promotion Fund Engagement Migros.
Less resource consumption, more quality of life
Local company ELEKTRON is making Swiss cities smarter. Mobility occupies a central position in this. "The Carvelo is therefore an obvious step in the right direction. With this project, we are supporting the spread of e-mobility and promoting the idea of the sharing economy," says Enrico Baumann, CEO of ELEKTRON. For Philipp Kutter, Mayor of Wädenswil, the cargo bike supports the efforts of the energy city to use resources efficiently: "Thanks to carvelo2go, the people of Wädenswil can comfortably transport heavy loads home without a car. I very much welcome this initiative. It allows us to break new ground in mobility."
The cargo bike runs on electricity from solar plants in the Zimmerberg region. This is guaranteed by the Zimmerberg solar vignette. "What's more, carvelos are all-rounders," says Dr. Jörg Beckmann, director of the Mobility Academy, "and once adults or children have been infected by the cargo bike virus, they are less and less likely to want to go back to the front or back seat of an automobile. Electric cargo bike riding is a lot of fun, offers a lot of flexibility and keeps you fit."
Bakeries as carvelo2go hosts
The sharing offer works very simply and is based on anchoring in the neighborhood. Small businesses such as pharmacies, bakeries, cafés or restaurants take on the role of a so-called host. In their function as drop-off point, they hand over the key and the battery of the Carvelo to the users. In return, the hosts can use the bike for their own trips free of charge. Anyone who wants to use a Carvelo reserves it via the website carvelo2go.ch or via the app of the same name. In Wädenswil, the Carvelo is managed by the coffee bar "Kafisatz" on Schönenbergstrasse. The idea of the cargo bike convinced the two owners of the coffee bar. "We are happy to support this meaningful and sympathetic project," confirm Claudia Rota and Yvonne Flüeler. Currently, more than 150 Carvelos can already be rented in 25 Swiss cities and municipalities.
