Convincing cooling despite demanding environment
Power electronics are becoming increasingly efficient. At the same time, the requirements for cooling and IP protection are increasing. In applications where power electronics are used in a small area in converters or similar housings and must be protected against dust and moisture, conventional cooling solutions reach their limits.
Compared to conventional cooling solutions, heat pipe technology additionally absorbs heat via copper heat pipes. Inside the heat pipes, coolant heats up, evaporates and rises with the contained thermal energy. At the other end, the heat is released to the outside via the fins and the liquid condenses (see graphic).
High IP protection
Heatpipes are frequently used in railroad technology to cool high-performance electronic components. Due to the high IP protection requirements, the components, such as a standard battery unit, must be installed in an enclosure. By using heat pipe technology, the temperature of the internal air can be lowered and reliable operation can be ensured.
Lightweight design - little space required
In many applications, size and weight play a key role. Thanks to their design, heatpipe heat exchangers are significantly smaller and lighter than conventional heat sinks. This means that weight and space requirements can be halved while maintaining the same cooling performance.
The way it works makes the cooling solution highly sustainable, as no additional energy source is required. The specific design also provides more dissipation area and makes heat exchange much more efficient than conventional solutions.
