Light means safety: Road and traffic circle lighting H16 Wattwil bypass - 2nd stage
The new bypass road connects Wattwil with Upper Toggenburg. It relieves the village center of through traffic and increases traffic safety. The highly frequented bypass is illuminated around the traffic circles and on the access roads with Luma gen2 luminaires, which were mounted on custom candelabras.
.
In cooperation with the cantonal civil engineering office of the canton of St. Gallen (TBA SG) and the engineering office Martin Meyer AG, the new lighting was planned and implemented. The lighting design for the conflict zones around the traffic circles as well as the access roads was carried out by ELEKTRON AG. We asked the responsible lighting planner of ELEKTRON as well as the project manager of Martin Meyer AG, what challenges are faced when lighting a bypass.
"For the different areas of application such as access roads, driveways and conflict zones such as here in the roundabout
were the Luma gen2 lights of the situation and configured according to the applicable standard SN EN 13201."

Three questions for Gian-Andrea Meyer Deputy Project Manager PVBSA, Martin Meyer AG
What challenges did you face in planning the lighting?
The task was to plan and implement a homogeneous street lighting between the existing and the new facilities. In addition to the planning, the coordination and exchange with the responsible EVU was also an important factor. The coordination regarding light point height, luminaires resp. their light color and the candelabra positions were as central as the compliance with the standards and the environmental compatibility.
How are the new luminaires controlled?
The street lighting was integrated into the associated lighting control system as well as the higher-level control system. The access-authorized agencies can operate and monitor them with it. This becomes necessary in the event of an incident (e.g., an accident) so that the lighting can be switched to 100%.
How does the long-term cooperation with ELEKTRON shape up for you?
The company ELEKTRON has already realized several projects for the Civil Engineering Office of the Canton of St.Gallen. The cooperation with Elektron, explicitly with Mr. Ernst Bosshard, was always at eye level, very constructive and solution-oriented.
We would like to thank Gian-Andrea Meyer very much for the cooperation.
