Night football game without unnecessary light pollution is possible!
On the Wiggis soccer field in Netstal (GL) in the middle of the Glarus mountains, the conventional sports field lighting was replaced with modern LED floodlights in spring/summer 2018. The sports facility, designed for the amateur league, borders directly on a residential neighborhood and is at the same time close to the forest and the mountains.
This meant that the requirements for lighting design and calculation were very high. The task was to find a lighting solution appropriate to the situation with the aim of keeping light scattering to a minimum as well as complying with the standards of the SFV (Swiss Football Association) and the specifications of the SLG (Swiss Lighting Society).
By using OptiVision headlights, equipped with the appropriate optics and the newly developed glare grid, both needs could be met. In the final light measurement by ELEKTRON with measurement protocol for the SFV, the lighting met all standards. And light pollution in the surrounding area could also be contained. Thus, neither residents nor animals in the forest are disturbed by nightly trainings or matches.
