Smart City Tower Küsnacht
- Micro Mobility Systems AG and ELEKTRON AG are building the first Smart City Tower in Küsnacht.
- The tower provides power for two electric cars and light for the charging station parking spaces.
- The Smart City Tower was donated to the municipality of Küsnacht for Micro's 20th anniversary.
Küsnacht - The Gold Coast gets its first Smart City Tower. The story of this already took its course some time ago. At the Smart Suisse 2018 in Basel, the founder of Micro, Wim Ouboter and Enrico Baumann, CEO of ELEKTRON AG met for the first time. Both were so taken with each other's products that they spontaneously agreed to a swap: a Smart City Tower for a Microlino.
The official exchange now took place on December 10, 2019. While ELEKTRON will soon receive its Microlino as a company vehicle, the Micro company has decided to donate the Tower to the municipality of Küsnacht for its 20th anniversary. The municipality is very pleased: "The Smart City Tower suits us because it symbolizes sustainability and progress at the same time: Attributes that apply to Micro as well as to Küsnacht. We sincerely thank Micro for this gift and congratulate them on their company anniversary," says Ueli Schlumpf, Vice President of the Municipal Council, President of the Küsnacht Energy and Nature Conservation Committee.

From now on, the tower is ready for use directly at the Küsnacht train station in the Zürichstrasse parking lot. It supplies electricity for two electric cars, provides light for the two charging station parking spaces and will also simultaneously measure environmental and meteorological data in the future. The parking spaces, which are marked in green, can accommodate two large electric cars or as many as six Microlinos from the company Micro. "We need many more smart solutions like this, because there are still too few public charging stations in our communities," says Wim Ouboter, founder of Micro.
The Tower's strength lies in its expandability and versatility. This allows the municipality to easily add other applications to it, such as a smart parking solution or traffic-dependent light control. Enrico Baumann of ELEKTRON is convinced, "by deploying the Smart City Tower at the train station, the energy town of GOLD Küsnacht has taken an important step towards becoming a smart city."
