Altendorf residential building project requires five times less energy than before

For Enrico Baumann, there is no question that energy efficiency and sustainability come first, and not just in his work as CEO of ELEKTRON. Energy renovation was also a top priority in the project close to his heart, the conversion of his home in Altendorf/SZ, which Enrico Baumann and his entire family carried out with a great deal of commitment and personal contribution. A project that has now been awarded the PlusEnergy Building Diploma from the Swiss Solar Agency.

Five times less energy despite 100 m2 more living space

Enrico Baumann's detached house in Altendorf/SZ was built in 1960. Until its renovation, it consumed 42,500 kWh/a. A figure that was to be significantly reduced by the renovation. Together with Tibor Lamoth and his team, the already completed renovation project was refined with a great deal of specialist knowledge and innovation to such an extent that a real dream house was finally on paper. Above all, the energy efficiency of Enrico Baumann's detached house has increased significantly. When the building was extended in 2022, not only was the insulation of the entire house improved, but a heat pump and a solar system were also installed to supply the entire house with sustainable energy. A conversion project that was successful thanks to the good cooperation of all those involved and the client's own efforts. Despite a tight budget, the building was upgraded to a progressive 149% PlusEnergy house. The renovated detached house now only consumes 9,000 kWh/a and therefore only a fifth of the original energy requirement, despite the increase in living space from 208 m2 to 310 m2.

This solar prize and the many positive feedbacks show that it was worth every effort. My family feels very comfortable in the "new old house". We are very proud that we are doing the environment and the climate a favor with this sustainable conversion concept.

Solar system with storage solution and emergency power for a self-sufficient energy supply

ELEKTRON was involved in this conversion project by providing advice, planning and procuring a battery storage system. The installed 14.6 kWp roof-integrated PV system produces 13,500 kWh/a, which is more than enough to reliably supply the entire household, the heat pump and the electric car with CO2-free electricity. To ensure a high and reliable level of self-sufficiency for the PlusEnergy house, the Pylontech battery storage system with a storage capacity of 17.76 kWh stores the solar power generated until it is needed. This is complemented by a GoodWe 10kW hybrid inverter with integrated emergency power output 3x16.5A. This means that the most important energy suppliers of the single-family home are reliably supplied with power even in the event of a sudden power failure.

A real affair of the heart and an emotional rollercoaster ride

There was no question for Enrico Baumann that energy efficiency and sustainability were the top priorities when converting his house. A goal that he achieved with a great deal of passion and personal effort. He is all the more pleased to have found the ideal partners for his conversion project in Tibor Lamoth and his team. "Thanks to the joint planning, our conversion project gradually became a dream home - even if the implementation was a real rollercoaster ride of emotions that gave me many sleepless nights," says Enrico Baumann, expressing his great satisfaction and thanking the entire team at Lamoth Reimann Architekten ETH SIA for the successful collaboration.
