The advantages
Smooth starts reduce your costs
The best way to adjust motor torque is to control the current in all three phases. 3-phase control provides symmetrical currents without the drawback of additional energy loss, noise, and vibration normally associated with 2-phase soft starters.
Emotron TSA soft starters integrate 3-phase control along with sophisticated torque control algorithms. Conventional soft starters use a predefined voltage ramp to control starting. With the Emotron TSA, the actual torque is continuously calculated according to the requirements of the application. This torque control ensures an extremely smooth start with constant acceleration.
Torque control means that the starting current is further reduced by up to 30%. You can use smaller fuses and less expensive cables, benefiting from lower installation and energy costs. Soft starts further result in reduced mechanical stress, improved process control, and lower maintenance costs.
Protect your process and maximize efficiency
An integrated load sensor protects your machine and processes from costly downtime, equipment damage and breakdowns. The unit responds immediately when the crusher is clogged, a pump is running dry, a compressor is running dry, or when a fan is operating inefficiently due to a clogged filter. This is achieved by continuously calculating the motor torque. Thus, any deviation from the selected load level will result in a warning or a quick yet smooth stop.
The current load can be displayed remotely via an analog output or via fieldbus communication. The load sensor can also be used to determine when a process has ended, for example, when the correct viscosity has been reached in a mixing process. You can count on efficient and reliable operation that is protected from damage and interruptions.
Protecting your motor
All Emotron TSA softstarters have a motor PTC thermistor input as standard for thermal protection of the motor. The isolated thermistor inputs comply with DIN 44081/44082 standards.
In addition, the soft starter allows the connection of up to 6 PT100 temperature sensors.
Intelligent stops - soft or fast
Emotron TSA offers efficient solutions for both soft and quick stops. A linear pump stop eliminates the risk of water hammer without the need for motor-operated valves
Integrated braking functionality ensures quick and safe stops of mills and saws without the need for mechanical brakes.
Low speed operation and jog function
In addition to speed up and down between zero and rated motor speed, the Emotron TSA softstarter allows low speed operation in forward and reverse direction without additional hardware. Slow speed or jog forward or reverse can be useful for aligning a load, or running the motor at low speeds for testing or maintenance.
Examples of applications where low speed operation or jog is useful include loading/unloading centrifuges or mixers or positioning conveyor systems.
Real-time clock and programming blocks
The Emotron TSA softstarter offers built-in programming blocks, e.g. logical functions, comparators, SR flip-flops, counters and timers. This paves the way for tailor-made functionality according to your individual needs.
A real-time clock provides information about the current date and time. The real-time data is used for time registration in the event log and enables pre-programmed start and stop at a specific date and time.
