FAQs on the hybrid solar inverter

The FAQ on hybrid solar inverters provides a basic introduction to the topic. Our experts will be happy to provide you with more specific information and requirements.

What is a hybrid inverter?

A hybrid inverter combines the function of a conventional photovoltaic inverter with that of a storage inverter. To ensure the highest possible level of self-consumption and independence, the hybrid inverter is also the control center for the energy supply or the energy output to the power grid and the battery.

How does a hybrid inverter work?

The PV panels produce direct current (DC). With the hybrid inverter, this direct current (DC) can be stored directly in a battery without conversion losses. For connection to the public grid, the hybrid inverter converts the direct current (DC) from the PV panels or the battery into alternating current (AC).

What are the advantages of a hybrid inverter?

The hybrid inverter offers all customers three advantages: The optimization of self-consumption, independence from grid outages and the reduction of their own energy costs.</p

  • Optimizing self-consumption: By integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage, the hybrid inverter can optimize self-consumption by storing excess energy and using it when needed.
  • Independence from grid failures: In the event of grid failures, the hybrid inverter can serve as an emergency power supply by using energy from the connected batteries, provided it has an emergency power function.
The Solinteg models have an integrated emergency power switchover and enable a switchover within <20 ms, within one rocking beat.
  • Reduction in energy costs: Energy costs can be reduced by using self-generated renewable energy and minimizing the use of grid electricity.
Can a hybrid inverter work with different energy sources?

A hybrid inverter can use PV panels and battery storage as an energy source. It is important to ensure that the components are compatible. A distinction is also made between low-voltage and high-voltage batteries.</p

The Solinteg hybrid inverters are high-voltage solutions, i.e. PV panels and batteries operate in a similar voltage range (DC), which also keeps the AC losses to 400V alternating current (AC) low. The large Solinteg models (MHT25K-50K) also have an additional generator input (AC), e.g. for a diesel generator.

How is a hybrid inverter controlled and monitored?

The hybrid inverters usually have an integrated control unit. This controls the energy consumption or the energy output to the power grid and the battery. This also requires a smart meter, which is installed at the grid transition. The inverter is also connected to the energy management system (EMS). This enables the operation of the inverter to be monitored, settings to be adjusted and the charging status of the connected batteries to be checked. Some models are also integrated into higher-level management platforms, such as the Solar Manager, for the advanced control and networking of consumers such as charging stations and heat pumps.

The Solinteg hybrid inverters contain a smart meter and are connected to the Solinteg platform. Access is possible via app or web browser. The Solinteg inverters have an SGready contact output for controlling heat pumps. A connection to the Solar Manager for extended control is also possible.

What factors should be considered when choosing a hybrid inverter?

When selecting a hybrid inverter, factors and specific needs such as performance, compatibility with connected energy sources, storage capacity for batteries, efficiency and control options and the need for backup power should be considered.

Is the installation of a hybrid inverter subsidized by the state?

No. There are currently no additional subsidies for the installation of hybrid inverters. However, it is foreseeable that with the planned expansion of solar systems, the redelivery tariffs will fall sharply in summer.

Can a hybrid inverter also be used without battery storage?

Yes, the hybrid inverter is a standard for every photovoltaic system. This is because only with the hybrid inverter does the property owner have the simple option of opting for a battery storage system at a later date, even if they do not initially decide to do so for financial reasons, for example.
